Please note I’m writing this as someone who hasn’t read the comics. I have however read certain strips so do know some of the storylines that potentially may crop up in the next episode. If you want to avoid any knowledge of what is to come, please stop reading now. If you have an idea of what is going to happen or have read the comics read ahead!
I hereby proclaim my predictions of the fates of the season finales chacacters
When season six began filming, fans were worried because they had seen her sporting a new cropped hair style. These people were quick to assume her exit, thinking she’d ended her contract with AMC and was now free to change her appearance as she pleased. However, it is now clear that her haircut was part of her role as Maggie. If we look back and remember the first hair change the show saw, it was Shane back in season 2. He cut his hair right before a huge moment in the show for his character, and for the plot as a whole. Could something as crazy be about to happen to Maggie? Will it be groundbreaking? Despite the obvious drama surrounding her current childbirth situation, I think she will survive the finale. I just don’t think the show could have another woman dying in child birth because it’ll basically say that there is no hope for a future generation. It also implies that a woman can’t give birth without the medicine and tools that we are used to in this day and age. One other disturbingly horrific theory that’s cropped up is the question of – if the baby is to die inside of her, does that mean it too will turn into a walker? And then would it lead us down the sickening internal eating twilight road? I’m sorry for the visuals but it’s a plausible yet a highly unlikely turn on the shows side of things, that could however determine whether the initial virus is active in future humans or just earths current inhabitants. This has also been a previous concern to Laurie who questioned the logistics behind post apocalypse child birth. Whatever Maggie endures this episode (and i’m pretty sure it’ll involve watching loved ones die) we’re all ready for Maggie to take charge and lead behind Rick. As Khloe said to me once –
Remember way back when, when Professor Trelawney spoke those fatal words “neither can live while the other survives.” Well not only was she referring to HP and Voldemort, but also Glenn and Maggie. Either Maggie or Glen will die and as previously stated, I don’t think it’ll be Maggie. Glenns death has been teased throughout the series which eventually led me to believe he would actually survive this seasons finale. I thought it was a much better shock to have Daryl killed off instead so I’ve had Glenn sealed as safe for the most part of this season. After revisiting the previous episodes, I picked up on a few more subtle hints which nod towards everyones favourite pizza boy turned combat killers death. Notably the elongated shot of Glenn staring at the poloroids hung above his first human kill in Negans compound. They all featured graphic and disturbingly gruesome shots of destroyed heads – Negans speciality. Was this Glenn staring into the future at his own fate? It fills me with despair to say – I think so. Him and Maggie have always had small moments that involve polaroids which have been touching and sentimental throughout their relationship development. I think the shot aforementioned is a clear inclination of the heartbreak we’re about to witness and feel. I thought the storyline surrounding his death in the comics would be copy and pasted over to Daryl instead. Now however, after reading that Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan and Andrew Lincoln all claimed to have either been physically sick, heavily disturbed or unable to sleep after reading the script, I think that the writers will stay true to the comics in this instance and kill Glenn in clear site of Maggie. Yup. 😦
Oh Daryl. Help. RIP. SOS. Please. No. We all know that Negan always kills somebody straight up from a group upon first meeting. This is when I thought about the Glenn and Daryl storyline crossover. With Daryl in the hands of Dwight though, I think that his fate may unravel slightly different to Glenns, but both will ultimately end in death. This does actually really piss me off because they are two of my favourite characters and the show will be forever different after their departures (and after the entrance of Neagan himself.) Honestly, I will grieve for weeks over the exit of Norman Reedus. His death is pretty much confirmed in that he hasn’t resigned with AMC and he has also started getting a fair few Hollywood film roles. It’s really a no brainer for an actor like Reedus to take those short but sweet film roles which probably pay him more in a 30 day shoot than his 8 months a year spent in Georgia heat. Even thought I’ve had some time to semi-prepare myself for Daryls subplot in the final episode, I know this will be excruciating to watch.
ABRAHAM SASHA ROSITA:
Then we have the love triangle of the apocalypse, Abraham, Rosita, and Sacha. One (or more) will probably go if we’re being realistic. But who? Abraham brings the comedic lines to the show, Rosita is the (and I hate to say it) the sex symbol of the show (as well as being the fiercest, sassiest gal in town) and Sasha, well Sasha opens new doors for Abraham, especially if were losing another romantic couple with the demise of Glenn and Maggie. I personally would rather Rosita survive than Sasha because her screen presence is attention grabbing and her strength is addictive. I do think Sasha is amazing for how strong she’s been through multiple personal losses and she’s an incredibly vital member of the front line. But realistically if it came down to one or the other it’d probably be Rosita. She is also definitely the best dressed apocalypse survivor. Minimalist Military looking soo fleek on her.
To be honest, I’m pretty sure that Carl will be fine. He’s had enough minor & major injuries throughout his time and I think another one would be pushing the realism of the story. I can see Carl being around for numerous seasons as I don’t think the show runners are ready for Rick to lose absolutely everything yet, and to have to deal with his personality change if that was to happen. It would just be annoying to see Rick digress back to his loopy post Laurie state. As well as that, the network will probably be pretty happy with keeping Chandler Riggs on their books as a less expensive, higher hyped actor. Riggs will soon be older and attract a new generation of show watchers as he becomes a more mature and cooler character himself. He’s took a step back this half of season 6 so I hope he’s given some more action scenes soon.
It was an awesome moment when Father Gabriel killed for the first time in episode 12. It was very gangster of him stood in his priest gear delivering a prayer as he shot a man with a machine gun. After initially feeling nothing but hatred towards him, he absolutely bounced back after he kept little Judith safe in the mid season premiere of season 6. Despite this, when it comes down to it, he’s a pretty disposable character. Of course it gives him an edge that he’s the only priest we have encountered but I don’t find myself wishing him more airtime. I personally think he’s probably reached the furthest his character can develop (he’s proven that he’s adjusted to this new world by killing)so it’ll only piss me off if he survives whilst the likes of Glenn and/or Daryl go. I suspect that Neagan will probably not want to kill a priest due to his “humbled background” but it wouldn’t cruelly effect me if so.
I found Carols departure all very strange. In fact, for the last few episodes her character has been yo-yo’d all over the place. I feel like we got so used to her being a strong, independent, ready to fight woman, and then she got catapulted back to being afraid and weak. These attitude changes were interchanged between the episodes which I think have been very badly received by the viewers. Going back to the episode which followed her and Maggie during their hostage time, one minute she was hyperventilating, the next she was determined, the next acting weak again! It was too messy! Because of this I’m finding it hard to say what I think her next move is. She’s certainly able to survive alone in the wild as we have seen before, but has her realisation of the killer she has inevitably become affected her too deeply now? She saved everyone once before at Terminus. Is Negan a match for Carol?
Will be fine.
Morgans character is one that incites regular debate and interpretation conflicts. I originally was highly interested in his character and where his story arch would go. Soon after his return, I became tired and frustrated with the person he had become. I’m really over his passive nature – I know it’s a horrible thing to say but he has compromised them all multiple times now! I’m thinking there is something substantial to come for his character but I haven’t read into the possibilities at all. There are more important things for me to focus on than Morgan and his woes. Except the cage. The cage worries me. Who does he TRULY plan on putting in it?
My love for Eugene was amplified a hundred fold after watching Josh McDermitt discuss his character on The Talking Dead. Damn that man is funny. Watching him as a person and not an actor really gave an insight into the chemistry McDermitt holds between his fellow actors which is in turn why his performances are always scene stealing. The fact that his character has just put forward an incredibly important idea hopefully seals his ticket to season 7. The bullet factory would be an absolute dream and hugely important for the survival of Rick and the gang. Nothing is ever that easy in The Walking Dead but I sure as hell hope we see Eugene sourcing the gang with ammunition because it’ll move the plot along, and also shut people up who always ask “where do they keep getting the bullets from” stick to enquiring about the gasoline because Eugene’s here to save the day!
Oh poor Tara. She’s lost her second girlfriend and probably her closest friend. To be honest, I don’t know where I see her future in the show. She was heavily pregnant for most of season 6 which leads a possibility of her leaving the show to spend more time with her newborn. Saying that though, surely if she was desperate to go, she would have gone way before she gave birth as I can imagine filming in the heat and conditions the actors had to, would not be a pleasant experience at all. Post birth she’d probably have a bliss time! I have no objections to her staying but again, there are better characters I’d rather have stay (Rosita, Sasha, Carol.)
Who even is Enid to be honest because since her heavily involved episode in J.S.S we haven’t seen any of her. She’s in no way developed at all since the start of the season apart from her willingness to stay. People have obviously now cooled down on the “Enid is a Wolf” theory but then WHO is she? Because she definitely isn’t just your average teen character filler. We finally see her back on screen as she lands herself being the person with Maggie as she goes into labour so there’s some definite big scenes ahead of her.
So there you have it guys! My predictions! Don’t hate me if they’re right…or all wrong LOLz.
P.S. DONT FORGET THAT TONIGHTS EPISODE IS BEING WRITTEN BY ROBERT KIRKMAN (the comic series writer) SO IT’S GOING TO BE EXTREMELY SPECIAL AND AMAZING AND SICKENING AND HORRIBLE AND GREG NICOTERO’Y ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Honestly, I wish you all the best of luck. Stay tuned for my after episode thoughts!
P.P.S THE EPISODE SHOWN ON THE DATE IT COMES OUT WILL BE THE ONLY TIME IT IS SHOWN. AFTER THAT ALL OTHER RE-RUNS WILL BE CENSORED VERSIONS. SO MAKE SURE YOU SEE THE REAL DEAL. WHAT THE FUCKKKKK ISSSS GOINNNNG TO HAPPPPPENNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
