I’m super sick at the moment which SUCKS because all my birthday celebrations are happening this weekend so i’m stressing that I won’t be better before then. I hate being ill. I can’t eat, I can’t drink, I can’t sing, I can’t do ANY of my favourite things except lie in bed and feel sorry for myself. I’ve composed a little list of things that have gotten my through this bout of Gal-flu so far in the hope that the next time you are struck down by it, you can take some of my wise steps to that not so healthy lifestyle you are used to living!
I was recently introduced to this show and I am so thankful to have had it to binge watch during this said illness. NOTHING has made me nearly smile more than Charlie Kelly and his cute little dirty face. The gang are excellent at making you feel like a wonderful person thanks to their own horrible characteristics which is what makes the show what it is. The chemistry on screen is so consistently good and the entire group dynamic is so different to your average sit-com which makes it all the more interesting to watch. I can’t help but feel a strong connection to Sweet Dee as like her, I am constantly overshadowed in my friends group of boys by my evil brother. The show was created by one of the lead characters “Mac” played by Rob Mcelhenney, he is kinda overlooked in the first few seasons by the more overtly humorous characters, however his knack for comedy writing completely excuses this fact and his character develops gloriously over time. (Fun fact; Rob Mc is now married to and has two children with co-star Kaitlin Olsen (Dee) after the two started secretly dating in season 2!) If you haven’t already seen the show then I would highly recommend watching it on Netflix.
Quite obviously the best choice of movie for when you are feeling at your lowest point during your cold. I mean the really low point when you can’t focus on anything but the overpowering feeling that you’d rather be a crack whore on a corner in Hollywood waiting for the chance that Richard Gere may or may not turn up in a 1989 Lotus Esprist than sat on a sofa surrounding by tissues and self-hate. (SIDENOTE – if you are still feeling like nobody will ever love you after watching Pretty Woman then feel free to follow up with any other Garry Marshall film of your choice)
Entourage! Once your done with the self pity afternoon of Garry Marshall films and you’re all Hollywood’ed up, why not skip to the small burst of energy phase in your illness. Symptoms can include delusional thoughts of everything your going to do when you are back to your usual health (i.e, go to the gym, prepare all your meals a week in advance, cleanse tone & moisturise every night, eventually dominate Hollywood and then the world.) Entourage is the perfect show to watch the boost your enthusiasm and your will to follow your dreams. Due to mine all focusing around film making and acting anyway, Entourage gives me an even bigger kick! Another delightful show brought to us by the television Gods that are HBO, this time centring around a young actor and his small group of friends that he hires as his – entourage – once he breaks into the exciting world of American Cinema. Produced by Mark Wahlberg, the story is loosely based on his own experiences when arriving on the Hollywood scene. I’m so thankful that the show started around ten years ago so we have all the greatest 2000 cameos i.e Jessica Alba, Mandy Moore, Kanye in his graduation days. Available on Sky Atlantic or multiple illegal streaming sites!
A Hot Toddy? What is a Hot Toddy you Americans may ask? Well its one hell of a drink that will instantly ease your flu symptoms. Shoutout to my dad for making me killer ones this week. The drink is made out of
and there you have it. I do’t know whether its the soothing honey or the fiery whisky that makes you feel better but either way, its a winner.
Snapchat is a vital instrument in your illness process to alert all of your friends of how you have been cruelly struck down with germs – ew! Not only is it important for the healing of your body but also for the healing of your ego so you can receive the correct amount of attention needed during your fragile time. Snapchats may include the amount of tablets you are taking, various reading materials to show how truly bed stricken you are, multiple snaps of your legs in bed because lets face it were not trying to repel people and lastly and most importantly, the faceless snapchat. One must never show ones face during your sick time unless you have the energy to complete a no make up make up look but yano, who can be bothered doing that.
We are tirelessly told how important it is to replenish our bodies with healthy foods in order to keep it working properly. This is something I only take REALLY seriously when I’m ill and willing to do anything to be better. To make it easier Naked Juices have compressed all those little good things into a bottle so it’s a lot easier to get those important vitamins and minerals! I tend to favour the Red or Blue machine day to day but during ill times GREEN is the way to go! Go get some!
I mean i’m not exactly sure what is is but my nana swears by it and I swear by her so yano. According to google it is “a mentholated ointment widely used in Eastern medicine for a variety of conditions.” So vague I love it. I use it for everything – headache, backache, breathing difficulty, which is why it is the perfect medicine for your cold. rub some on your chest and temples and breathe in that icy air! mmmmmmm.
What better way than to spend your restless time than watching interviews on youtube of your favourite football team/players. One of my personal favourites is this one, in which Daley Blind pronounces “crisps” as “crips.” Classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNIHtQFnOlU
I also watched a 15 minute interview with Juan Mata (my fave) which was conducted entirely in Spanish which wasn’t as funny for me because well, I couldn’t understand one word but I’m sure it was really witty and fascinating x
I’m currently reading A Feast For Crows and it’s completely AMAZZZZING. At first I was like whoa who are all these random characters telling the chapters but having so much Brienne and Cersei dialogue is definitely what i’ve been waiting for. Nothing makes you feel marginally better than reading about the poor souls who exist under the Iron Throne.
So there we have it, the things that have kept me going the past few days. Here’s hoping that I’m better by Saturday because I have fabulous plans that I really want to see through. At least my dresses may fit better than they would have done if I hadn’t gotten ill. Always look for that silver lining, and next time your ill I hope this blog post can bring you a little bit of pain relief.
