So there we have it. The news many of us have anticipated for several years now. New Harry Potter films are heading to our ever developing screens. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to be part of a trilogy with the potential for further features. Wall Street Journal Ben Fritz claims that Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara has stated that the spin off will be “at least a trilogy” which implies that there could be a split part 1 part 2 scenario further down the line. JK Rowling is making her screen writing debut which is in my opinion the only saving grace. That and the return of deathly hallows David Yates. I have always wanted to see our favourite wizarding world back on screen but is it really worth unsettling all of our post harry potter depression for a chance of it being an okay film with amazing special effects? Well if you work for Warner Brothers then yes obviously its going to be a multi million dollar success but thats just the problem. I feel like films like this are only being made with the money and franchise in mind and whilst it is guaranteed to be visually pleasing, I just hope that it maintains the depth its predecessors have had. It borderline offended me upon hearing the news that The Hobbit was being released in three parts which is totally and absolutely over the top. Despite the intricate world Tolkein created in later years The Hobbit is relatively straight forward and could have easily been done in two at the most films. Anyway that is a completely different series of thoughts in itself but I hope the same (mistake) won’t be made. Whilst we aren’t any the wiser on the actual plot JK Rowling does make the point that it is neither a sequel nor prequel to Harry Potter and will take place 70 years before, starting in New York. We can only put our best faith in her with the knowledge that anything she touches is quite literally magical so fingers crossed for all us Potter fans. Does anyone else hold any apprenhension or do I just have blockbuster fear?
